Guide Intro

Index of User Guides

Welcome to WAFRN! WAFRN was inspired by sites like Tumblr, and connects with sites like Bluesky, Mastodon, and many other federated social platforms. This means it's a blend of social media features, some of which may be familiar, while others may be less familiar, plus a few of our own. This guide aims to help identify ways for new WAFRN users to get the most out of their experience on the site.

This guide was last updated on 1/19/2026, corresponding with desktop web build v2026.01.04-DEV.

Introductions

If you make a post using the tag #introduction, the post becomes searchable, and helps people find you. Add this tag to your post, share some information about yourself, and list the things you're interested in, so people with common interests can link up with you. You could also add topic-relevant tags so your intro post can reach people who are looking for the things you like.

To learn more about making posts, check out our other guide on making a post.

You can also search "introduction" in the search function, which will show you other people's introduction posts. You may be able to find some other new people to follow!

You don't have to be brand-new to post an introduction - some people also post new introductions when they move instances, to let their new instance-neighbors know what they're about. It's a good practice for anyone spinning up a new account.

Following People

Because WAFRN has no algorithm, your feed will start a little sparse. The best way to tackle this is to follow people! You might need to follow a lot of people! You can follow people on your WAFRN server, other WAFRN servers, and any other inter-operable federated platform by default, like Mastodon.

You may also find helpful info in our other guides on feeds and safety features, the search function, and interacting with posts on WAFRN.

Curating Your Experience

Sometimes people post things you don't want to see. Like many other sites now, WAFRN has filtering tools to help you see less of the unwanted stuff, and more of the good stuff.

To filter stuff out, see our guide on feeds and safety features. To find stuff you want, see our guide on the search function.

If you want, you can also opt-in to Bluesky integration, which will let you follow people from Bluesky too. To learn more about this, see our guide on Bluesky Integration.

Having Fun!

WAFRN is a platform built on whimsy and a person-centered experience.
